Permanent Residents (PRs) have almost all of the privileges and benefits held by Canadian citizens. They have the right to live, work and study anywhere in Canada as well as access to social services, healthcare, and protection under Canadian law. PRs are able to leave and enter Canada’s borders using their Canadian PR card or PR travel document. They must also meet specific residency obligations to maintain their status.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada facilitates the entry of permanent residents (PR) in a way that maximizes their economic, social and cultural contribution to Canada while at the same time protecting the health, safety, and security of Canadians.
